How do I create a community?

Once you have an archive.storycorps.org account, you can create a community. While communities can be accessed in the StoryCorps App, they can only be created and managed from archive.storycorps.org. To create a new community:

  1. Log into your archive.storycorps.org account via a web browser.
    • The account you are logged into will become the owner of the community.
  2. Click on your profile photo in the upper right corner of the screen and select Create A Community from the drop-down menu.
  3. On the community creation page, you will be prompted to fill in the following fields:
    • Give your community a title.
    • Give your community a 3-4 word tagline.
    • Upload a photo or image for your community.
    • (optional) Add a longer description to your community.
    • Select a group category.
    • (optional) Link to your website or social media.
  4. Select your community’s Interview Moderation settings.
    • Decide if you want to moderate prospective members and interviews, or leave your community unmoderated. You can find more information about moderated communities in the Help Center article below:

How do I moderate my community? Are there different moderation options?

  1. Select your community’s Privacy and Visibility settings.
    • Choose between creating a public or private community. You can find more information about community visibility options in the Help Center article below:

What is the difference between a public community and a private community?

Please note: Once a community has been made private, it cannot be changed to public.
  1. (optional) Set up Instant member sign-up for the StoryCorps App.
    • Create a unique community code so people can seamlessly join your community from the StoryCorps App.
  2. (optional) Enable Podcast Feed and add Podcast Subscription button.
    • When enabled, interviews from your community can be fetched by feed readers, like iTunes and Google Play.
  3. Once you have filled in all the required fields and chosen your community’s privacy and moderation settings, select Create Community from the sidebar on the left side of the page.
