What is the difference between a public community and a private community?

Public communities are the most common type of community on archive.storycorps.org and feature interviews with privacy settings set to Public or StoryCorps Community. Anyone can browse and listen to interviews posted to a public community regardless of whether they have an account on archive.storycorps.org or are a community member

Private communities feature interviews with privacy settings set to Public and StoryCorps Community, or to Private. Private communities are not searchable to the general public and can only be accessed by community members when logged in to their accounts. Adding private interviews to a private community allows other community members to access these interviews while keeping them private to other archive users and the general public. Additionally, membership moderation is automatically turned on for private communities.

Please note: While you can change a public community to a private community, there is no way to change a private community into a public community.
