Joining a community is an easy way to share your interviews and explore other user’s interviews on a similar topic. Once you’ve joined a community, you’ll not only be able to share your interviews, you’ll be able to access interviews of your fellow community members and utilize any custom question lists that have been made for that community.
There are two ways you can join a community. Regardless of where you join, you’ll be able to access the community through your account on either the StoryCorps App or archive.storycorps.org:

Please note: Unless you have been given a community code, you can currently only join a community through archive.storycorps.org. However, once you’ve joined, you can access the community using both the StoryCorps App and on archive.storycorps.org.
Join a community on archive.storycorps.org
To join a community on archive.storycorps.org:
- Login to your account on archive.storycorps.org.
- If you’ve been given the URL for the community
- Enter it in your browser’s search bar to go directly to the community’s page.
- If you haven’t been given the URL
- Select Communities from the top of the archive.storycorps.org homepage.
- You can find a specific community by searching the title or browse by keyword to find communities on a specific topic. You can filter your search results by using the Refine feature in the left side of the search page.
- If you’ve been given the URL for the community
- Once you’ve found the community you want to join, select Visit to go to the community page and then select Join to request to become a member.
- You can also select Join from the community search page to request to be added as a member without visiting the community page first.
- You did it! You'll see a gray box confirming that “You have joined this community.” Click the link in the box to refresh the page and access all of the content on the community.
- Please Note: If this community is moderated, it may indicate that your membership is pending. Once the moderators have approved your membership, you’ll receive an email confirming that you have joined the community.
Join a Community with the StoryCorps App using a a Community Code (Advanced Feature)
If you’ve been given a community code, you can join a community directly from the StoryCorps App. You'll be able to enter this code when you create your account through the app (or after creating an account) to instantly join the community.
Using a community code when you create an account
If you don’t have an archive.storycorps.org account, you can join a community using a community code when you initially create your account on the StoryCorps App. Simply follow the steps to create an account in the StoryCorps App and enter your community code in the Community code (Optional) field.
Using a community code to join a community when you already have an archive.storycorps.org account
You can also use a community code to join a community on the StoryCorps App even if you’ve already created an archive.storycorps.org account. To join a community after you’ve created an account in the StoryCorps App:
- Open the StoryCorps App and login to your archive.storycorps.org profile.
- Select the profile icon on the bottom right side of the app navigation bar.
- On your profile screen, select the blue edit icon that appears on the upper right corner of your profile picture.
- From the Edit My Profile screen, find the Community code (Optional) field and enter your community code.
- Select Save at the bottom of the screen to add yourself to the community.
